KastKing Appoints Spanish Distributor Calico for Iberian Push
KastKing has appointed Spanish distributor Calico as its exclusive partner for Spain, Portugal, Gibraltar and Andorra, marking the latest milestone in the Chinese-owned brand’s European expansion. The deal was formalised following discussions at EFTTEX in Barcelona and builds on a relationship between the two companies that stretches back almost two decades.
KastKing’s Business Strategist, Rex Nelson, told the trade press that his personal working history with Calico — dating back to his TUF Line days — gave the brand confidence that the Barcelona-based distributor could become a long-term strategic partner. KastKing Business Director Eric Knickerbocker also worked with Calico for around five years.
“Operating from its headquarters and warehouse facilities in Barcelona, the company is well positioned to service retailers across the Iberian Peninsula and surrounding territories,” Nelson said. “For KastKing, the partnership delivers immediate access to an established sales network with strong penetration in saltwater fishing markets.”
Why the Deal Matters
Calico brings an extensive sales force covering Spain, Portugal and surrounding islands. With a strong presence in saltwater markets, the distributor can immediately launch KastKing’s top-tier saltwater spinning reels — a category where the brand has invested heavily in recent years.
The partnership also offers mutual growth potential. While Calico has traditionally been strongest in saltwater, it has ambitions to expand further into freshwater fishing. KastKing’s portfolio — which includes freshwater reels, rods, line and accessories — is positioned to help make that happen.
Calico’s in-house marketing capabilities were cited as a key advantage. The distributor can localise catalogues and promotional materials for individual markets, enabling faster product launches and stronger retailer support.
Timeline and Rollout
Initially, Calico will focus on KastKing’s core high-volume product categories but will ultimately offer the full freshwater and saltwater range, including reels, rods, lines, tools and accessories. The official launch into Calico markets is scheduled for end of September 2026, with a comprehensive market introduction strategy including dealer presentations, digital marketing campaigns, product testing, and media collaborations already in preparation.
“Our European plans are certainly moving more slowly than expected,” Nelson acknowledged, “but much of that is due to the calculated approach we are taking to selecting the right partners. We anticipate that by the end of 2027 we will have a complete distribution network for KastKing product lines throughout Europe.”
EFTTEX and Beyond
KastKing has already confirmed it will return to EFTTEX in Prague in 2027 and will also exhibit at ANGELWELT Berlin alongside its German distributor, Advanced Fishing, following what it described as an overwhelmingly successful event last year.
Montserrat Calico of the distributor said of the partnership: “KastKing brings a dynamic and innovative product range that allows us to strengthen our position in key markets while offering our customers access to one of the fastest-growing brands in the international fishing tackle industry.”
Context
KastKing, founded by Chinese entrepreneur Tate Cui and manufactured in mainland supply chains, has built its global reputation largely through direct-to-consumer channels and aggressive Amazon listings. The brand has been gradually shifting toward traditional retail distribution — a move that requires fundamentally different business infrastructure. The Calico deal represents a concrete step in that direction, following earlier European distribution agreements including Advanced Fishing in Germany.
